It's 2022, why are schools still segregated?

it's 2022, why are schools still segregated ?

Schools are still segregated due to the surrounding neighborhoods, depending on what neighborhood you live depends on what school you go to. It's like redlining but for schools, means if you live in a poor neighborhood you go to underpaid school. Most black African American children don't get to experience a good education due to where they live, which makes the school segregated. I feel like  there needs to be a change in the school system because children deserve proper education no matter where they live. I think that we need to start looking for ways that don’t segregate schools. My experience I school was good overall but there were times I felt segregated due to my race or financial status. I remember one time were all the African American students were getting called into an office to talk our free lunch ending, which meant our parents would have to provide us with money in our accounts to eat lunch. Some of our parents simply couldn't afford to give us money everyday for school lunch. which caused a big problem in the school.

I think schools are segregated because, the education system never had the chance to recover from being segregated in the sixties. The school systems never got a chance to welcome other races without them being forced into that school. I think schools are slowly trying to fix the issues of segregated but don’t know how. I think if the school system come together as a community they can learn how to fix the segregation issues and become more successful in the end.

Why Teach ?

All my life I have always wanted to help people who needed it the most. So, when I decided to go to community college, my major was education. After being in community college I didn't feel the passion that I needed to flourish in the teaching world anymore. I switched my major from education to social work for more macro-work. I later transferred to Texas State where I discovered my love for teaching again. Since switching my major I feel like teaching has been my calling from the start. I have found my true passion for teaching, which is amazing. I really want to work with the low-income community because they might not get the equal opportunity for a good education.

I would like to teach Science or English because those were two of the subjects that I thrived in during my years in school. I'm open to teaching any grade level but if I had I choose it would have to be 1st grade.  I would like to teach 1st grade because they are always to ready to learn new things and move on from their kinder ways. I would like to teach at low-income school to help students who don't have much to reach their full potential in school. I want my students to come to me after they graduate and tell me that I had some impact in them succeeding in school. I also want to create a safe space for my students who might not have one at home.
